April 6: The Prayer of Commitment

“Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. Casting all your cares on him. Because he Cares for You.” 1Peter 5: 6-10

We need to remember that it is always God, Our Father’s desire to fulfil the desires of our heart; if those desires are in line with his will.

This message is a lifesaver for those who will learn its principles. A lifesaver because if we as believers learn to cast, or commit our cares and worries to God and learn to rest in his peace the effects of fear, worry and impatience will be dissipated; the physical and mental turmoil that can lead to physical illness and disease need not be a dominating force in and on our lives.

This form of prayer helps you to learn discipline by learning to leave those cares, once cast into the hands of the Lord, right there in his hands; allowing Him to deal with them as we have asked.

no fishingWe look at the importance of maintaining a positive confession about our life and our circumstances. As well as looking at where the real battle in our lives takes place.

 Prayer of Commitment

As promised I have prepared a page of Personal Confessions that can be used to change the way you speak and think about what God has to say about you as a believer. It is a good thing to pray the word of God over your own life. This same set of confessions can be used to pray over loved ones, children and others. May they be a blessing to you.   Personal Confessions

March 30: The Prayers of Petition and Consecration

In this week’s teaching we look at two types of Prayer.

The Prayer of Petition, which is to change things and situations, never people. It is a prayer that is made in Faith because it is based upon the promises of God covering the situation that you are bringing before him. It is a confident, heartfelt prayer that is prayed with a confident expectation of a result. This form of prayer requires a knowledge of God’s will, as revealed in his word, for the life of his children in this earth.

The Prayer of Consecration, or Dedication, which is the only form of Prayer where the phrase “If it be your will!” is ever used. The example we have from Jesus’ own Christ-in-the-Garden-of-Olives-Paul-Gauguin-1889life is the prayer he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before he faced torture, beatings, crucifixion and death as an innocent man. This kind of prayer would be prayed by someone dedicating their life to the service of God and his people; such as: “Father I dedicate my life to your service and if it be your will even to the mission fields in Africa.”

We must always remember that it is God’s desire that his children live a full and prosperous life, in this world. That is of course in direct proportion to the level at which our souls prosper.

A short message but an important one in learning how to be effective in our prayer life.

March 23: The Power of Agreement

In this week’s session of Prayer School we looked at the Matt 18: 18-20 passage from a slightly different perspective than usual.

The Amplified Bible changes the terms Binding and Loosing to Unlawful and Lawful and gives a deeper understanding of OUR need to find out the will and character of God to be able to deal with such situations appropriately.

Additionally we came back to the understanding of the need of an intimate relationship with God which will draw us closer to a place where we can agree and be in agreement. The point behind Jesus telling us in Matt 6:33: to “seek to know God and be in right relationship with him and all the rest will take care of itself.”  If we, as the church are more interested in what those around us are doing wrong, then we will find our attention is drawn away from that primary task.

Unless we actually do agree and have the knowledge from God regarding a subject of prayer the prayer of agreement will NOT work. If I’m praying in Faith and you’re hoping something will happen, we are not in agreement.

March 16: All Kinds of Prayer

Praying hands

This week we look at the various kinds of prayer outlined in the bible.

We start off with a brief outline of the message from last week as a foundation for this week’s teaching.

There is a need to learn how each type of prayer is made, so that it can be effective.

We discover that thereason why some people say that their prayers are never answered may well be due to the fact that they are not praying with either the right motive or the right way.

We take a brief look at Intercessory prayer and the prayer of Faith.

March 9: Prayer School

This week saw the beginning of Prayer School at Open Arms Fellowship.

We looked at the difference between Praise and Worship and the way each, as distinctly different positions before God have become  confused into one animal called “Worship” suggesting that it’s all one thing.

Jehoshaphat from IIChron 20, became a focus as to the way those who desire to approach God need to look at ‘How’ they are approaching God.

We looked at the need to allow God to be God all the while maintaining an attitude of Praise. But, most especially in the midst of undesirable circumstances.

Unfortunately the message was not recorded.

Make sure you don’t miss next week!

Coming Soon: Prayer School

One of the most misunderstood subjects in the whole of Christian teaching

Praying hands

is that of Prayer. So many Christians will say: “I never get my Prayers answered.” Others will exclaim: ” How do I know if God hears my Prayers or not?”

Sadly, there are even people who will admit that they’ve “given that whole prayer thing up.” The problem is that God is the first person they turn to when they get themselves into trouble and ask him: “Why did you let that happen to me?”

Over a series of weeks we will look at the principles of prayer. The rules that govern prayer and also, most important of all, what the bible has to tell us  regarding this essential subject in the life of the Christian.

Prayer School will begin Sunday 9 March

Volume: 1 Issue: 1

June/July 2013

“Give thanks to The Lord, for he is good. His Mercies Endure forever.” Ps 136:1

Our much maligned God is a loving father who desires only the best for his children. God is often blamed for a loved one’s death, some form of disaster, or we see God as punishing us for something that we have done wrong.

However, the truth is that our Loving Father would rather see us prosper and be in good health living in divine favour and safety. The thing that limits how much of this that we experience is the amount to which our soul prospers; how much time and effort we put into developing our relationship with him:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. (3 John 1:2)

This message from the disciple who was referred to as “John the beloved” is a discussion about the importance of attending to our relationship with Christ, his body and his word, contained within the books and letters in the bible. It is by spending time with the good shepherd that we, as his sheep, learn to recognise him speaking to us in our hearts and thereby learning his voice, over the voice of the enemy; who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10)

This is one of the reasons that learning about who we are ‘In Christ’ is so important. If we don’t understand the work that God has done, by his grace, through his son, then we will live life, In Christ at a much lower level than God desires for us to enjoy. We all (including his GLBTIQ children) have been given access to the Grace of God. But, if we do not access it; if we don’t stand in that grace; we will never experience all the benefits that this “unearned favour” has provided for us, here in this life.

Our lives ‘In Christ’, should be so desirable, that anyone who doesn’t know God is drawn to him. We must not hide our light under a bushel. But, shine as a beacon, on a hilltop, drawing people to the Love that God has for them. As well as the blessings that God has for them to experience right here in this world; not just in “The sweet by and by.”

This Sunday past, 28 July marked our Eighth meeting and the end of the series where we’ve been studying “Who We Are In Christ;” a study on our right-standing, in Christ, given freely by God’s Grace. All of these messages will be available as Podcasts very soon if you have missed any of the teaching.

As a new work it is exciting to see where people come from to attend meetings on a Sunday; with one person travelling all the way from Port Kennedy on Public Transport.

A dear friend of mine Pastor Sam Grebert from New Covenant Church of Sydney has recently returned from the “Immersed” Conference at New Covenant Church of Atlanta with Pastor Randy Morgan. I am receiving wonderful testimonies, almost daily, of the miraculous healings that have occoured as a result of prayer and the feasting on God’s word in the meetings.

I am reminded of a statement by Sister Maria Woodworth-Etter from the revivals in the early 1900s, that the word goes forth and God responds to the measure by which it is received.

The new series of teachings starting Sunday 4 August will be entitled “Our Father” this series will concentrate on the loving relationship between God the Father and us, his children. We will consider how the names of God give us insight into the character of God. As well as the way Jesus taught us How to pray.

We look forward to seeing you very soon and pray that you will be blessed by the teaching and by the ministry. Prayer requests should be sent to prayer@openarmsaustralia.org

We would like to send a big Thank You to all of those people around the world who are praying for Open Arms Fellowship. May you all be blessed for the wonderful support you provide this ministry.

We look forward to hearing more and more good reports of the work that God is doing, especially amongst his GLBTIQ children, in the future.

Love in Christ
Pastor Graham
